Devil’s Hopyard State Park – East Haddam, CT

It’s said that 60-foot drop known as Chapman Falls was a favorite spot of the Devil to play his fiddle. A quick hike exploring just a small bit of the The 1,000-acre park in southeastern Connecticut. After spending two nights camping in the park, the time had come to explore the forest I called home

Concerts – 2025 July

A stomping hardcore/death metal gig around home then hit the road with Pelican once again for a 10-day loop around the Midwest, Northeast, and Canada. It’s been a little while since I found myself at Hardcore Stadium, the infamous Elk’s Lodge in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Gatekeeper Jam 24 would feature a tag-team of death metal crushers

Wachusett Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary – Princeton, MA (June)

Explore 12 miles of trails at Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, featuring several meadows, a glacial boulder, old-growth trees, and beaver ponds. Concerts – 2025 June

Slower-than-normal month, but as always, the shows were of the highest caliber. Caught up with old friends when The Atlas Moth swung through. A powerhouse of a grindy hardcore gig with riffs chugging and bodies flying off the stage. The month ended with another party at Widowmaker Brewing featuring some of the region’s finest. Kicking

White Mountain National Forest: Peakbagging Mount Hale, Zealand, and the Twins

Three days and two nights of peakbagging summits and camping in the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. The 21-mile trek will bring me by waterfalls, scenic views, one AMC hut, and up and over four 4,000+ foot mountains. This brings my count to 34 of the 48 for the NH48 Challenge. Also gained

Mount Holyoke Range State Park: Seven Sisters Ridge – Holyoke, MA

Spent the day trekking along a short section of the New England Trail called the Seven Sisters Ridge, birding along the summit of Mount Holyoke, and dodging falling millipedes throughout the hike. The 9 miles out-and-back hike followed the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail and the New England Trail. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72, though it’s

Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary – Topsfield, MA (May)

The nearly 2,000-acre landscape features drumlins, eskers, forest, meadows, swamps, and wetlands, offering many habitats attracting shore and song birds. Returning to one of Mass Audubon’s largest sanctuaries along the endangered Ipswich River in Topsfield, Massachusetts, it’s one of my favorite local-ish spots, for what I thought would be a quick mid-day stroll. Enjoying the

Four Star Farms – Ground to Glass: April 2025

Along the 42nd parallel, the farm is located by the Connecticut River, surrounded by farmland with rolling hills towards the west. Four Star Farms has the biggest hopyard in the state of Massachusetts at 17 acres, growing several varieties including Centennial, Chaos, Magnum, Mt. Rainier, and an experimental field. I will be following the growth

Concerts – 2025 April

After taking the first couple of weeks off from shows to get back used to real life after touring for most of March with Pelican, the first few shows back at it feel like a haze. To celebrate the 4/20 holiday in style, Widowmaker Brewing once again hosted Hopsmokerfest and the 3-day lineup was stacked.

Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary – Topsfield, MA (April)

Another afternoon spent wandering trails to admire some birds. This time, visiting one of Mass Audubon’s largest sanctuaries along the endangered Ipswich River in Topsfield, Massachusetts. The nearly 2,000-acre landscape features drumlins, eskers, forest, meadows, swamps, and wetlands, offering many habitats attracting shore and song birds.  While observing a patch of yellow daffodils, I noticed
