Caught a rock show at Medford’s best sandwich shop/venue Deep Cuts, then Day 1 of the 2026 installment of Something in the Way Festival at Roadrunner.

While running errands around Medford, stopped into Deeps Cuts for a sandwich. Got the I.C.P., insane chicken pesto, whoop whoop, with a side of potato salad and a “Clippership” Pils. While looking at the calendar for their events noticed they had a rock show booked for that evening. Black Helicopter would be celebrating the release of their new album titled ‘Balacining Act,’ released in November 2025 via Best Brother Records. Spiller, a new band with Chris Pearson from Green Magnet School on guitar and vocals, Glen Stilphen from Gang Green on bass, and Jack Clark from Jerry’s Kids on drums and vocals. Garage psychrockers Daughter of the Vine would open.

Philly noisey shoegazers Her New Knife would kick things off for Something in the Way Festival, touring in support of the recently released ‘Chrome is Lullaby.’ Boston’s very own Gollylagging would perform their new song “Bronco.” Wisconsin-based songwriter Graham Hunt released his new album, ‘Timeless World Forever,‘ in 2025 through Run For Cover Records and would perform selects from it.

Screamo newcomers Febuary, known for their popular song on TikTok, got the crowd into a frenzy with the first stagedivers to take flight. Modern indie rock ensemble Teen Suicide would perform several new songs from their forthcoming album ‘Nude Descending Staircase Headless,’ including “Keeping Her Keys,” “Anhedonia,” and “Living Death.” Marking the halfway point of the festival, How Much Art, a newer synth-driven post-punk band featuring current and former members of Have Heart, Fiddlehead, Gel, and Qualms took the audience by storm.

Guv, the musical project of songwriter and musician Ben Cook, also has new music slated for release in 2026 through Run For Cover, ‘Warmer Than Gold‘ that mixes power-pop, nostalgic 90s pop, and shoegaze. Angel Du$t exploded with a relentless set, blasting through fourteen songs, opening with “Cold 2 The Touch,” “Toxic Boombox, ” “Love Slam,” “The Beat,” “Turn Off the Guitar,” and ending with “Set Me Up.”

Riffy indie-rockers Momma performed “Welcome to My Blue Sky,” the title track to their fourth and most recent album, released last year on Polyvinyl. Pennsylvania mainstays Tigers Jaw would perform “Head is Like a Sinking Stone” and “Ghost” for the first time live, both songs appear on their upcoming album slated to be released in March (‘Lost on You‘ – Hopeless Records).

Emo Revivalists The Hotelier set consisted of songs from ‘Home, Like Noplace Is There‘ and ‘Goodness,‘ and yes, that included “Your Deep Rest.” Closing night one of Something in the Way, post-rockers Explosions in the Sky would take the stage with an emotive and cathartic set.
