The month packed quite a punch with a few special performances, sold-out venues, and legendary bands.
Starting the month, Sparta performed ‘Porcelain’ in full, their second album released in 2004 on Geffen Records, at Taffeta Music Hall in Lowell, Massachusetts. Joining them that night, Junius performed a phenomenal set with what I want to say a new song, perhaps it was just a deepcut. The band is preparing to head to Europe for a quick tour shortly after this local-ish appearance. If it was a new song, this would be the first new music since their third album, ‘Eternal Rituals for the Accretion of Light,’ that came out eight years ago.
Melvins and Napalm Death toured together for the “Savage Imperial Death March” in 2016. Almost a decade later, they decided to join together again, stopping in Boston to play a sold-out Paradise Rock Club. This would be the first time since 2016 for the Melvins where both Dale Crover and Coady Willis (Big Business) are on drums. Melvins are supporting their twenty-eighth studio album, ‘Thunderball,’ released this past April.
Baroness would perform their first two albums, 2007’s Red Album and 2009’s Blue Record, to a sold-out crowd at the Sinclair in Cambridge, MA. It was absolutely amazing.
Jaunting down to Providence, Rhode Island for An Evening of Dark Arts IV. Heavy post-riffer crusaders Lesser Glow shared the stage with Morne, SEA, Wormwood, and Marrowfields (due to equally heavy traffic, missed). A wonderful night of art, music, and friends.
Sundrifter was bopping around the region with Montreal’s Sons of Arrakis, playing a home-area gig at Widowmaker Brewing’s Boston location. Then at the Braintree taproom, Pentagram would stop by along their tour with Slackjaw. Traditional doom band Mistress, a new project featuring members of Fuming Mouth and High Command, would open the sold-out brewery concert. The Dreg’s Liquid Lightshow delivered a tripped-out experience, elevating the vibes to both shows.
